Joe Vea YouTube videos

Filed under: Fighter News — erin @ 09:42:58 pm

A big congratulations goes out to MMACalifornia sponsored fighter Joe Vea for his win over Arby Magtibay (who was no slouch himself) at the PureCombat show last Friday night. This just goes to show that having MMACalifornia's logo on your ass = win.

We've got two videos off of YouTube below for your viewing pleasure. This first is from SutureMagazine.com and contains the full fight. The second is an interview with RingSports.com done after the fight. We always appreciate a good shout out.

PureCombat: Bring the Pain Results

Filed under: Pure Combat — erin @ 09:09:22 pm

Pre fight randomness:

We get an air arid siren to start the show, which fortunately don’t last too long.

The ring announcer is very enthusiastic and makes everything sound like the coming of the apocalypse. I worry that he’s going to loose his voice before the end of the show.

Before the first fight Steve Heath gets to do announcement, which can be paraphrased to: “Yea show in Stockton! Don’t fucking riot if I loose”.

Anthony Von Rekowski vs. Brandon Cash

Jesus, Brandon Cash is a large boy.

Round 1. Cash moves in quickly with punches before the fighters tie up. Cash pushes them up against the fence. The fighters exchange a few knees and grapple to the other side of the ring. Cash gets a takedown into half guard before being pushed back to full. Cash returns to standing, drops a few solid punches and returns to half guard. Pretty active fight for big guys so far.

Changes to CSAC laws

Filed under: CSAC — erin @ 09:08:27 pm

From the CSAC:

The public comment period for all proposed CSAC rule changes has now officially closed. Effective immediately, all documents pertaining to the change in rules will begin its final journey which includes stops at: The Legal Department of the Department of Consumer Affairs, the Budget Office of the Department of Consumer Affairs, the Legislative Review Office of the Department of Consumer Affairs, the Director's Office for the Department of Consumer Affairs, the Secretary's Office for the State and Consumer Services Agency, the Department of Finance, the Office of Administrative Law, and lastly, the Secretary of State.

The timeframe on these rules becoming law depends on how long the rules spend in each location but my best guess is July 1 coinciding with the start of the fiscal year.

The following rules are slated for adoption or amendment:

Rule 227 - Arbitration Procedures: Sets procedures for arbitration hearings.

PureCombat Bombs Away

Filed under: Pure Combat — erin @ 10:30:03 pm

Press Release:

Friday, June 6th, 2008, PURECOMBAT returns to the Visalia Convention Center with BOMBS AWAY! A night of hard hitting mixed martial arts action returns to downtown Visalia, CA with 10 full contact cage fights. The card is headlined by a Welterweight World Title defense. Champion Brett ‘Fudoshin’ Cooper takes on challenger Dustin ‘the Rooster’ Arden in a main event sure to be fight of the night.

In the main event, PURECOMBAT Welterweight World Champion Brett Cooper makes his first title defense against Terra Bella’s own Dustin ‘the Rooster’ Arden. Cooper is on a 3 fight win streak, including a win over Jason Von Flue in December, when he won the PURECOMBAT title in what Inside MMA called ‘the all-out war of the year’. The challenger, Arden, is known for his ‘never say die’ hyper-aggressive fighting style. He will come throwing bombs, looking to test Cooper’s concrete chin and immovable spirit.

PFC Announces additions to roster

Filed under: Palace Fighting Championships — erin @ 10:48:21 pm

Press Release:

LEMOORE, Ca. — The Palace Fighting Championship has recently added some significant fighters to its roster.
Four high-caliber fighters have signed contracts to compete in one of the top mixed martial arts promotions in the country.
Highlighting the group is Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Jake O’Brien (10-1) of Indiana. O’Brien was recently released from his UFC contract and PFC President Christian Printup wasted little time signing the heavyweight prospect, whose only loss is to UFC star Andrei Arlovski (12-5) at UFC 82 in March.
“We are very excited to bring in one of the most promising young heavyweights in the country. He’s proven himself at the sports highest level. He beat Heath Herring,” Printup said. “Jake is a great wrestler with solid boxing skills. A lot of people haven’t seen that, but we want to put him in some fights where he can show it. We want to thank Ken Pavia for making the deal work.”
